"The Plain Township Gators"
The swim team was organized in 2003 and is a fun summer organization for children from beginners up to the age of 18. Anyone can be on the swim & dive team if they can swim 1 length of the pool without stopping. The swim team is a member of the Greater Columbus Swim League (GCSL), which is made up of 9 local swim teams (Delaware, Gahanna, Highlands Park, Hilliard, Northland, Northwest, Olympic, Westerville JC and Plain Township). Participants MUST be a member of PTAC as required league. One team swimsuit per swimmer is required. Team logo wear such as T-shirts are available and are optional. There are usually 5 home meets held on Wednesday afternoons and Championships follow at the end of the season. It is a special privilege when your child qualifies for championships and we encourage you to attend these events. This year, the championships will be held at Plain Township Aquatic Center (PTAC). The pool will be closed to the public for the two days of championships - tentatively set for Monday, July 23 and July 24, 2007. Swim team practice is held in the mornings before the pool opens to the public. Age 10 and under usually practices at 9 a.m. and Age 11 and up practices at 8 a.m. The Dive team practices at the New Albany High School dive pool and a lifeguard is provided at this facility. There will be an informational meeting in May when you can meet the coaches, sign up for the team, purchase team suits and more. Watch the website for updated information. Fees: $85 for 1st child, $65 for 2nd child and $45 for 3rd child and each additional child. The fee includes accident insurance coverage, cost of practices, coaching, medical and liability insurance, ribbons and materials. The swim team is run by a board of volunteer parents in conjunction with Plain Township, which provides the facility and supports the team. Parents are asked to volunteer to help with timing and scoring events, but it is a fun activity for your child. Many of these children go on to join the school swim team to competitively swim. |
